Spring 2025
Open Hours are great for dropping in to get a quick question answered or ask about a particular functional element; we recommend scheduling a two-hour block for new staff to get an overview of the system (as a supplement to departmental training).
Open Hours are two hours per week [or three during peak times] during the semester, and one hour per week over the summer).

Previous Years'
Deeper Dives were the precursors to the current, more expansive PAVE the Way sessions, that presented opportunities for faculty and staff users to come together to have conversations about how to best use iAdvise. PAVE the Ways are not designed as lectures or trainings (and not limited to iAdvise topics), but rather as places for users to get their questions answered from other users and ADSS staff. Users are invited to bring iAdvise questions to PAVE the Way sessions to have interactive discussions of aspects of the system where they have questions.
Interested in a previous Deeper Dive? Previous years’ topics are below:
- What’s the Workflow When There’s No Workflow?
- Communicating through iAdvise
- What Does a Student See?
- Innovation Preview: My Watch List
- Tips to “Protect Your Peace”
- New Student Advising Workflows
- Reviewing Roles and Relationships
- Early Alerts [Part of Winter Advisor Week]
- Non-Cognitive Assets Profiles
- Effective Filters
- Early Alerts Best Practices And Reporting
- Effective Notes
Because these sessions involve looking at live student data in iAdvise, those who wish to attend will need to have completed FERPA training at https://ferpa.uic.edu. If you miss a Deeper Dive but want to view the recording, you will need to email iadvise [at] uic.edu.
